
What is Kinesiology?

The practice of kinesiology is the assessment of human movement and performance, and its rehabilitation and management to maintain, rehabilitate or enhance movement and performance.
Registered kinesiologists are leaders in the prevention of injury and chronic disease. The role of a Kinesiologist is to evaluate physical activity, function & movement patterns to recommend and deliver solutions for health, exercise, sport, and work settings.
The term kinesiologist is protected and governed by its’ regulatory body, the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario. In order to become a Registered Kinesiologist the following criteria must be met :
Obtain a minimum four year Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology or a related field.
Pass the College's entry to practice exam
Submit a criminal record check to the college
Obtain liability insurance

*to remain in good standing with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario, a registration fee must be paid annually and proof of up-to-date Insurance must be provided to the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario
Many insurance companies cover services by a Registered Kinesiologist. Check your extended health benefit plan and you may be eligible for reimbursement.
All receipts by a Registered
Kinesiologist are eligible to be submitted as a healthcare expense on your income tax return.

As a human movement specialist, a Kinesiologist is trained to look at the whole person, not just the affected area, and then assess where the weak links are located in the kinetic chain. The next step is to prescribe the appropriate, progressive exercises and stretches, coping strategies and adjustment of daily habits to help alleviate any discomfort and restore movement.
